Old School Burke

Hello World

On y va!

“Start a blog.”

It’s been on my list forever, and here we are. There’s so much I want to share—this is actually my second attempt at blogging, but now I feel more ready. Like how the tech industry is terrible at interviewing and hiring, and some ideas for making it slightly less terrible. Or, that on-call does not have to suck necessarily. And please, for the love of everything good, can we agree that becoming a manager isn’t a promotion? You get the idea?

Now, to tackle the inevitable question: why “old school burke?” It’s an old gaming handle I created as a teenager. “Old school” usually describes something from a previous era, viewed with a bit of nostalgia. “Burke,” on the other hand, has roots in 19th-century British slang—originating from William Burke, a notorious grave-robber, it’s come to mean someone acting foolishly or making mistakes (Slang Sensei). So, to me, “old school burke” has always meant someone a bit old-fashioned, maybe a bit quirky, and occasionally prone to silly mistakes.

Anyway, as Dan says, “There’s nothing here that most of my co-workers don’t know (with the exception of maybe three or four posts where I propose novel ideas). It’s just that they don’t blog and I do.

Here’s hoping my words add something of value to your day.

PS: I want to thank Herman for his blog for the inspiration, and motivation to do this regularly.
